Manic Monday provides three random questions each week. Since this weeks questions are not up as of now, I’m answering last weeks questions.
Were you considered popular in high school? Why or why not?
I always find this question hard to answer. I was friends with lots of people from über popular to less than über popular. I hung out with the drama kids, the delinquents, the kids that lived nearby, the girly girls, the tom boys, and everyone in between. A lot of people knew who I was even if I didn’t know them. I was active in a variety of after school activities from DECA to SADD to drama to student council. Although, I never thought of myself as popular, one might say I was.
How old are you in your dreams?
Depends on the dream. Sometimes I relive something that happened in the past so I was whatever age I was at the time of the incident. Sometimes, I don’t really see myself so I don’t really have an age.
Did you ever run away from home? Why or why not?
I never ran away. I’ve heard that I threatened to run away when I was very little but never actually went through with it. I knew that I had a pretty good life so there was no point in running away.
This weeks Mommy Moment is brought to you by the letter B.
Boo Boos are the hardest part of being a mom. Especially for moms of highly active kids. They can be a minor bump to a bloody mess.
Here’s a typical boo boo conversation with my boys.
Child: (typically crying like they’re going to die)
Me: What’s wrong?
Child: (explanation of what got hurt, by who and how)
Me: Are you bleeding?
Child: No.
Me: Would a kiss and a band-aid make it better?
Child: Yes.
Me: Let’s get a band-aid.
It’s usually followed by me putting a band-aid on whatever they say they hurt and giving the boo boo a kiss. Then they are happy and off to play again.
The biggest boo boo that we faced was when Little T fell and hit his nose on the dining room table. We couldn’t get it to stop bleeding and he would scream if you touch it. With an ice pack and a towel on his nose, we raced off to the emergency room because it was after hours. Thankfully, he did not break or cause any permanent damage but it was swollen for a couple days.
We have also used cold packs, ice bags, pillows, triple antibiotic ointment, and other common first aid. The best tip I have for anyone who has children on a regular basis is to be prepared. We have a first aid kit with band-aids, triple antibiotic ointment, and gauze pads in my purse, in the glove box and in each of the boys traveling backpacks. Inside each of the kits is a small piece of card stock with common first aid procedures such as burn care, splinting, mouth to mouth and the Heimlich maneuver.
Some giveaways are so enticing that I cannot ignore them. This is one of those giveaways. My boys love Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, cartoons, and aliens so Planet 51 is the perfect combination for them. (more…)
Organization has been a big part of this week around our house. We’ve cleared out the boys’ closet and the office closet and put in a variety of organizational items to make the closets functional. So, I thought I would list thirteen items that we use around our house to help maintain organization.
ClosetMaid Pantry Cabinet – One for a pantry and one for DVD/VHS storage. Yes, we still have a few VHS tapes around the house.
The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others’ comments. It’s easy, and fun!

I am beginning to wonder if we’ll get Little T’s AAC device. After settling into our new homeschool adventure we began researching options for an AAC device. We spent loads of time calling places, requesting referrals, and crossing our fingers. In late July, we finally find someone who could do the evaluation we needed and thankfully at no cost to us. After spending months getting all the paper work, referrals, reports and what not together, we faxed over an order for the device in late October in hopes of getting the device before the end of the year.
Within a few weeks, I was informed that the company had contacted the insurance company for a pre-approval. After a month, I began to wonder why we hadn’t heard anything so I began calling and logging the conversations I had with each company. Over three months past the initial request and we are no closer to having the device in our hands.
Personally, I think three months is ridiculous to get an approval in writing. Yes, we have an approval but we cannot get that approval in writing. We have talked to more than a dozen employees and every time we appear to get close, the person assisting us is no longer available either due to job transfer or elimination. Now, I wonder if we’ll ever get the device.
Our boys participated in a homeschool country wide Valentine exchange. Since the valentines were coming from various places, it also allowed for a geography lesson. Each family was asked to send some interesting facts about their state. I have lived in the same city my entire life and when looking for interesting facts about Arizona, I still learned something. I knew that Arizona was admitted to the union in February but it never clicked that it was on February 14th.
I haven’t watched a Super Bowl game in many years because I’ve had better things to do. This year, Tim was working and needed to be watching the game for his job so we watched it. And while I didn’t find the game all that interesting, I did find the commercials of interest.
I would have to say my favorite commercial was Google Parisian Love where they managed to show off their powerful search engine in a simple, yet effective way.
