Subway Rejects Homeschoolers

Subway contest turns down home schooled children in their recent writing contest with their official contest rules stating “Contest is open only to legal residents of the Untied (sic) States who are currently over the age of 18 and have children who attend elementary, private or parochial schools that serve grades PreK-6. No home schools will be accepted.” As a parent of a home schooled preschooler, I find this strange. Scripps National Spelling Bee contest winner was a home schooled child and other contest winners have been home schoolers. I agree with many of the comments I have read about how simple it would have been to include home schoolers. In fact, as one parent mentioned, it would have been great media for Subway and home school if the winner was a home schooled child who donated the equipment to a charity, school, or park.I’d love to hear what other parents have to say out there. I actually love Subway sandwiches but this blatant disregard for home schooling makes me want to never have another one from them again.

High School Memories

I stumbled across my yearbooks and thumbed through them. Of course all the memories came flooding back. Pep rallies, hanging out behind the math building, the grassy area between the math and science buildings, working for Mrs Giltner and so much more. I read through all the signatures from my classmates and could almost hear the person’s voice reading them to me. I had such a wonderful 4 years in high school that sometimes I wish just for one day, I could be back in high school with everyone. I miss my high school friends, a few of the teachers, the administration, the clubs and everything else I was involved in. I remember fighting school uniforms, getting written up for using foul language (LOL), and all the other non sense fun we got into.

Color Identification

The boys are really good at identifying most of the standard colors so I thought we’d start working on the non-standard colors. I found a car colors book at http://www.earlylearningactivities.com/PDF/carcolorbook.pdf and it has some non-standard colors in it. The boys are familiar with all of the colors except beige so this would be a fun book to do with them. I printed it out and made the book. We’ll do that later today. Right now, they are having ‘recess’ and nap time.I’ll update once the boys have finished their books.

Happy Mother’s Day

I’m feeling a lot better so we’re still planning the dinner tonight to celebrate. Little T stayed the weekend with my mom so it’s been a quiet weekend. I’ve been relaxing all day and hubby’s been tending to Drama King. It’s been great just relaxing and watching whatever I want and doing what I want without worrying about Little T and Drama King being at each others throat.Dinner should start around 5pm. My mom is bringing Little T home at that time and will stay for dinner. I’m not sure if Erica will be staying for dinner but I hope she drops by at some point for her gift. Oh, I forgot to mention that she’s planning on moving closer to the family. She’ll be just around the corner from us in a few weeks. She’s realizing that having family, even if it’s not her family, is a tremendous help to get through things. She’s having a hard time dealing with everything. She wants to move to TX to be with her mom before her mom gets worse. For those of you who don’t recall, Erica’s mom is dying of cancer and Erica has only seen her a handful of times since her mom moved to TX a few years ago. Erica won’t get to move until after all the stuff with Tank gets sorted out in the court system. Erica has to terminate Rob’s parental rights, switch the legal insurance provider from Rob to herself, get Tank tested for an IEP, get insurance for Tank and a few other things before she can move. Some she’s already started the ball rolling but others must wait until all the court stuff is done.
