Avocado Seeds
We’ve tried growing avocado seeds a few times but for one reason or another, they have not sprouted. Drama King asked a few weeks ago to try again so the next time we had avocados, we tried again. This round we got results, twice over.
We attempted to sprout four seeds and so far, two have sprouted. One sprouted almost instantly and has grown tremendously. The second one, sprouted only a few days ago and it doing well. If they do well, we plan to transport them into large pots and eventually move them outside in hopes of bearing fruit in the future.
Health Insurance Slow Down
Why can’t our health insurance get their act together? After a lot of hard work on our part, we finally had all the documentation needed to put in a formal request to purchase a communication device for Little T. That was back in November.
I have spent the last month contacting our insurance company every few days and still have not resolved the issue. They have approved the request but have failed to provide the letter stating exactly how much they will pay for each of the approved pieces.
The insurance company must have felt my frustration because as soon as I finished the last paragraph, my phone rang and it was them. I spent a lot of time on the phone but it all appears it’s coming to an end. Hopefully by this time tomorrow, the insurance company should be able to provide what the device company needs to send out the device. If all goes well, Little T will have his device soon.
Windows 7
Well, Tim and I have officially upgraded to Windows 7. Before rolling it out onto all the computers in the household, we are using it only on our primary computers.
There’s a few things that take a little getting used to but overall, I’m happy so far.
Rude Is The New Black
Why do people make commitments and then not honor them?
My younger brother, 27, should be old enough to know better. His girlfriend has asked my mom and myself to keep an eye out for a dog for her. She had thought for a long time and said she really wanted a male pug. My mom told her that it might be hard to come by a male pug for free or close to free but we’d keep our eyes open for one. Well really late Friday night, I found her the perfect dog for free. I called my mom and asked her to call my brother the next morning to let them know I found one. If they really wanted the dog, he could pick him up at 4 p.m. on Saturday. I, also, asked her to find out if they wanted to pick the dog up or if they wanted is to pick him up.
Saturday morning, my mom called them and they sounded excited about having a new friend in the house. My brother was working all day and his girlfriend had her two kids plus my brother’s son so it would have been rough for her to pick up the dog. My brother asked my mom if we’d pick it up and then he’d swing by after he got off work to pick him up. My mom said no problem and even joked about my brother getting off late. My brother confirmed that he got off between 8-9 and would head straight to us.
It’s now almost midnight and no sign of my brother. He’s been to our house many times so I know he didn’t get lost. Our phones, home and cell, are both working but we didn’t receive a single call from him or her. My mom spent a lot of time this evening attempting to get a hold of them. She had the idea that she would pick up the dog and bring it to them so they’d have a chance to bond before it was bed time. They never returned her call. Now, both of their phones are turned off which is a common thing they do when they retire for the evening.
Would it have killed either or them to return my mom’s calls or call us since they knew we had the dog? We were completely unprepared to have a male dog in our house. Our two female dogs are exactly happy to have a male intruder. Not to mention the fact that it is a MALE dog and wants to scent everything in site. If they would have informed us early in the day that they were not going to pick it up tonight, we could have made arrangements and not be left scrambling at midnight to find newspaper (not house trained) and a place for him to sleep tonight.
And to think, we RSVP to every party invitation we’ve received from them. Maybe I should expect this from them since they usually RSVP as a maybe to our invitations and then rarely show up. Although, the one time they said no, they actually showed up.
How did this world become so filled with inconsiderate people?
Boy Suspended For Having Long Hair
Meet Taylor Pugh.
He is 4 years old.
A suburban Dallas school district has suspended a 4-year-old from his prekindergarten class because he wears his hair too long and does not want his parents to cut it.
What? Yes, you read that right. A school district suspended a 4 year old because of the length of his hair.
School officials say the district’s dress code serves to limit distractions in the classroom.
I do not understand the correlation between hair length and education. If having long hair is distracting the classroom, does it really matter if the body under the hair is male or female?
The district states that a strict dress code “is a vital step toward furthering excellence and better preparing our students for college, careers, and life as adults.” I have never, not once, been subjected to a dress code this strict so how does this prepare them for life as an adult? Do some adults have a dress code this strict? Of course but the real question is how many adults have a dress code this strict?
I’ve read a few comments on various articles stating hair is hair and the parents should just cut his hair because his education is more important. I can’t imagine having to tell my children, who absolutely love their long hair, that they must cut their hair because someone doesn’t like it.
