Weaning For Bottle or Breast

As you may know, I also write occasionally for Your Celeb Source. A lot of talk has been going around about Suri Cruise still drinking from a bottle on various news sites so I wrote about it.

Both my boys self weaned before they turned two, one at around a year old and the other around 18 months. I admit that I never put much thought into weaning because it came naturally for us.

But, does it come naturally to all children? I haven’t met a child yet that doesn’t have a natural understanding of themselves. As parents, our job is to help guide the child as they grow and learn.

We began providing sippy cups to our boys around 9 months old as an alternative to the breast or bottle. Sometimes they would choose the sippy cup, sometimes the breast or bottle. As they got older, they choose the sippy cup more and more.

What do you think about weaning from the bottle or breast?

Boy Suspended For Having Long Hair

Meet Taylor Pugh.

He is 4 years old.

A suburban Dallas school district has suspended a 4-year-old from his prekindergarten class because he wears his hair too long and does not want his parents to cut it.

What? Yes, you read that right. A school district suspended a 4 year old because of the length of his hair.

School officials say the district’s dress code serves to limit distractions in the classroom.

I do not understand the correlation between hair length and education. If having long hair is distracting the classroom, does it really matter if the body under the hair is male or female?

The district states that a strict dress code “is a vital step toward furthering excellence and better preparing our students for college, careers, and life as adults.” I have never, not once, been subjected to a dress code this strict so how does this prepare them for life as an adult? Do some adults have a dress code this strict? Of course but the real question is how many adults have a dress code this strict?

I’ve read a few comments on various articles stating hair is hair and the parents should just cut his hair because his education is more important. I can’t imagine having to tell my children, who absolutely love their long hair, that they must cut their hair because someone doesn’t like it.

Mom finds her baby alone, locked inside daycare

The baby’s mother, Julia Castillo, says she came to pick up her son Monday at the My Special Place Early Learning Center in Johnston, only to find the center locked and no one around. A neighbor heard her yelling and banging on the door and helped her get inside, where she found her baby boy crying in a crib.

I can only imagine what was going through the mother’s mind when she realized the facility was closed. I don’t know how a facility can care for a child all day and then forget that the child was in the building when they close for the day. I hope the facility changes their policies and does a complete check of the building prior to closing up for the night.

This was posted in a local group that I’m involved and after reading, I thought I’d share it will all. A person without children asks “Why don’t friends with kids have time?” This person feels that her friends with kids are “either lying or competing” with her and she wants to know which one is the case. It is quite obvious that the writer of the column understands having children because she either has kids or has observed someone with kids.

Parents didn’t report boy missing for a decade

Authorities in Kansas are looking for a boy who disappeared about a decade ago, but was not reported missing until a few weeks ago.

“We don’t know what happened to Adam Herrman past ’99, when he was last seen,” Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy said at a news conference in El Dorado.

“Is he alive, is he dead? That one I can’t answer because we don’t know,” he added.

All I can say is “Wow!” Even if my child (adopted or not) was a constant run away, I would never NOT report them missing.

New AZ Money Making Law

AZ law limiting the use of license plate covers will be enforced as of January 1, 2009. The statue states that “A person shall maintain each license plate so it is clearly legible and so that the name of this state at the top of the license plate is not obscured.” A fee of at least $150 will be levied if you do not follow the law.

A few questions come to mind; a) How often can you be ticketed for the same “crime”? b) Will the photo radar tickets add this “crime” even if the original crime is found invalid?

We have had an OUTSTANDING plate cover on our plate for many years and it has always brought comments, snickers, and laughs where ever we go. We even registered a domain with the phrase because of it’s hilarity. Sadly, it covers the state name and we just came back in from the garage after removing the cover. I haven’t decided what we are going to do with it since it will be useless to give it to anyone in AZ.

Mom Sexually Assaulted 2-Year-Old Son

According to the charges, Lee performed oral sex on her son and took photographs, sending them through e-mail to a friend who forwarded them to the 2-year-old boy’s father. The father then called police.

Opinion:
I am at a loss for words. I just hope this child is NEVER returned to his mother and that she NEVER has another child. I am happy that this was found out early enough that the child has a chance of being normal instead of living with his mother for years before anyone found out. I send my wishes to the father as he will have a lot to deal with in the coming years.

LOCAL: Boy shot in head playing in yard

An 8-year-old boy was shot in the head and critically wounded while playing on a swing in his grandparents’ backyard on the South Side on Monday.
The boy’s 4-year-old brother was in the yard but was not hurt.
An 18-year-old man who lives nearby was arrested and charged in the shooting, which occurred at a home in the 800 block of East Drexel Road near South Park Avenue.

All I can say is WTF? The article says that the 18 yo who shot this child MEANT to shoot him.What motive would anyone have to shoot a child especially with a 4 year old next to him. I cannot wait to find out what the motive behind this was. My heart goes out to the family in their time of need.

This event also happened across the street from the school Little T is set to attend in August.

Another Toddler Found On The Loose

‘LA PORTE – Another toddler in diapers running loose has police in La Porte hard pressed to explain why so many reports have happened.

“Really, I have no idea why this stuff is going on,” said La Porte Police Detective Paul Brettin.

The latest case was 8:30 p.m. Friday when a woman looked outside her residence and noticed an 18-month-old boy. The child wearing shorts over a diaper was walking out in the street in the 1400 block of Scott Street.”

OPINION
What has happened to some parents nowadays? As most of you know, I have been recovering from a surgery since January. During my initial recovery, I nor my family would have thought about leaving me to care for our boys alone. I hope this mother is charged for neglect as she didn’t even wake up when the police officer was yelling at her. But the bigger question in my mind is the father’s whereabouts. What was more important than caring for his child? Since the mother was unaware of the father’s whereabouts leads me to believe he was not working or doing anything that should interfere with his ability to care for his child. He should be questioned and, if he has no legitimate reason, charged for neglect.

LOCAL: 7 bodies discovered in desert

“U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered seven bodies of suspected illegal immigrants in Arizona’s desert from Friday through Sunday as the scorching summer heat raged on.
Nearly 60 others who were suffering from dehydration or lost were rescued.
Including Monday, temperatures in Southern Arizona have exceeded 105 degrees for nine straight days and exceeded 100 degrees for 10 consecutive days, said Bill Turnerof the National Weather Service. Saturday’s high was 111 degrees and Friday’s 109 degrees.”

OPINION
I have lived in southern AZ my entire life. Every summer our temperatures swell into the 100s. Every summer illegal immigrants attempt to cross the border and die. Why? I have never understood crossing the border in the summer. If you’re going to illegally cross the border, prepare yourself for the season you choose to cross. Summer heat requires more baggage so just don’t do it unless you can provide for yourself.

Here’s some dos and don’ts of illegally crossing the border during 100+ degree weather.
DO
~ Bring gallons of water – this should be the bulk of your bag’s weight,
~ Bring appropriate food – this should be the second bulkiest part of your bag,
~ Wear appropriate attire – this includes a hat and clothing to protect you from the sun,
~ Dress in layers – this way you control sun exposure
~ Carry identification of some sort – even if it’s hand written,
~ Plan your route and stick to it, and
~ Pack everything in a bag that is comfortable for you to carry.

DON’T
~ Bring one water bottle and expect to find water in the desert,
~ Bring foods that will slow you down,
~ Travel between 11am and 4pm – it’s TOO hot,
~ Cross while pregnant – it’s not a smart idea, and
~ Expect my tax dollars to provide you medical care if you were ill prepared for an illegal crossing adventure.

Amazing toddler. She possesses a great passion for reading and apparently my favorite book ‘ Give A Mouse A Cookie” which she kept asking for. LOL

Mom Power-washed tot

“A Florida mother caught on tape using a pressurized hose at a car wash to discipline her toddler daughter could end up in hot water after police meet Friday to consider filing child endangerment charges.”

What the heck is wrong with some parents nowadays? I can see turning a regular non-pressured hose on a child if you had no means of cleaning the child but a POWER WASHER. What was she thinking? Didn’t she carry baby wipes, diapers, extra clothes or any of those other normal necessities for a toddler? An update said they are charging the mom with abuse. Good for them! I hope she learns a lesson with this event and never harms her child again. And to think, she’s gunna have another child soon. I hope she learns some patience and understanding so she can deal with 2 children under the age of 3. Since I have two that are much closer in age then her two will be, I know how demanding two little ones can be at times.

Woman severely injured while saving toddler

“A young mother was hit by a car as she tried to push her toddler son out of harm’s way.”

My thoughts are with this family while they go through this terrible time.The mother put herself in harms way to save her child. We all know that this child would have been seriously harmed if the car had directly hit the child. I hope the mother survives this ordeal.

‘Miracle baby’ conceived from 22-year-old sperm

Amazing! 22 year old sperm is potent enough to create a child and he froze enough to try 19 more times if they choose to have any more kids. At a mere 18 years old and faced with death, what sparked him to think about his future in this way. He should find and thank the doctor who told him to freeze his little guys. If it wasn’t for that doctor and the sperm bank keeping them even though he wasn’t paying to store them, he’d never have that precious little cutie they named Jacek. I wish them the best and if they choose to try for more, I hope it goes easier next time.
