On the Grill
Grilling is a fantastic way to make a meal and because we live in Arizona, we can grill year round. We tend to grill commonly grilled foods and haven’t ventured into the land of new foods so these might seem common but they taste oh, so yummy!
Burgers
2 pounds ground chuck
1 medium onion, diced
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp season all
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper
Optional Toppings
your favorite cheese, bacon, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, etc
Directions
Combine all ingredients. This is Drama King favorite part because he loves to squish the onions and spices into the ground beef. Divide the mixture into 5 balls. Because our boys typically don’t eat a full patty, I take one of the balls and divide into two. I end up with 4 good sized burgers and 2 smaller burgers. Press each ball into a round flat cake. Grill burgers to your favorite doneness. Tim grills them for about 4-5 minutes per side. When they are almost done, he puts on a slice of cheese to allow it to melt onto the burger.
DO NOT press down on the burger as this while dry it out. DO NOT turn the burger more than one time.
And of course, you’ll need your favorite hamburger buns. A lot of times we make our own buns from scratch, either plain or onion. We always server our burgers with fries, usually homemade double fried french fries. A fresh salad would make a wonderful side, as well.
Thursday 13 Thunks – Walking in Memphis

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of KC’s hair and the number 33.
1. Robins have red breasts. Why are their eggs blue?
I have no idea actually.
2. The doorbell buzzes at the same moment the phone rings. Who was on the phone?
Probably Grandma Deb. She’s the only one who might call around the time the doorbell would ring.
3. It seems that there are several very popular memes each day of the week. Which meme did you first become a regular of?
Wordless Wednesday but I quickly added a few others.
4. It is about time that Berleen and Kimber meet in person. Should we start a collection to fly one of them to the other, or just hope Thom’s bus and get from Hawaii to Kimber in Arizona and take her to Berleen in Minnesota?
Who???
5. Tell us about your pets. Do you have one that you wish would run away?
We have two cats and two dogs. Sometimes, I wish one of our cats would run away. She’s a finky cat who hates to share and will make her opinion known to all.
6. What was the last thing colored red that you wore?
Does blood count? I don’t wear red very often but I do occasionally get blood on me when a child falls down and gets a bloody boo boo.
7. I have a train that runs by where I live several times a day. I actually find it peaceful. What’s the longest journey that you have taken by train?
I’ve never been on a train.
8. If Kimber threw a five dollar bill off a building that was five stories high, and Berleen threw a twenty off a build that was six stories high, who do you think would find the money?
What???
9. If reincarnation really happens, whose life would you like to know that you have already led?
I don’t think I’d want to know.
10. What are your three favorite possessions?
Computer and all it’s accessories, TV and all it’s accessories, and my digital camera.
11. A lot of people still believe that Elvis is alive. Have you ever worn blue suede shoes?
Nope.
12. Do you have siblings? If yes, are you anything alike?
I have one brother, Rob. We are complete opposites.
13. Has anyone ever asked you to strip naked and cluck like a chicken?
No. And I hope no one ever does.

Thursday 13 Thunks

These questions were inspired by the late George Carlin. His quotes are in bold. They were gathered from his routines. The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color KC’s eyes and the number 3.
1. Why do they ask you to get on the plane? Shouldn’t you get in it? When was your last flight?
When I flew to Hawaii in the summer of 2000.
2. Why do they call two planes getting too close a near miss? Shouldn’t it be a near hit? Have you ever been on a plane that was in trouble?
Never, thankfully.
3. If a mute swears, does his mother wash his hands with soap? What have you done when your child sweared?
My boys are still little so swearing is at that “oh that’s too cute” stage. Tim and I do remind Drama King and Little T that some words are grown up words not to be repeated by little ones. Read more
Thursday Thirteen – Organization Tools
Organization has been a big part of this week around our house. We’ve cleared out the boys’ closet and the office closet and put in a variety of organizational items to make the closets functional. So, I thought I would list thirteen items that we use around our house to help maintain organization.
- ClosetMaid Pantry Cabinet – One for a pantry and one for DVD/VHS storage. Yes, we still have a few VHS tapes around the house.
- ClosetMaid Horizontal Closet Organizer – Stacked 5 high to store shipping boxes and envelopes of various sizes.
- Wire Storage Cubes (primary colors and white) – For toy and clothing storage.
- Hanging Closet Organizer – For the boys to keep their shoes and whatever else they decide is closet worthy.
- 3M Command Hooks – Hangs almost everything that goes on walls.
- Storage Totes (various sizes) – In the garage for storing holiday decor and stuff we want to save.
- Plastic bins (various sizes) – To keep related items together.
- Toy Organizer and Storage Bins – Helps keep the kids toys organized yet in view.
- Shipping boxes (reusing the ones we get) – Garaged items again.
- Light Storage Reels – These work wonders to keep our Christmas lights and various extension cords nicely organized.
- Bookcases (2,3, 5 shelves) – Hold everything from books (duh!) to photos boxes to art supplies.
- Sheet Protectors – We use these as wipe-able boards for everything from weekly menu to the kids’ school folders.
- Calendars – To prevent double booking and maintains the kids activities.
