Plot (from IMDB)
While attempting to gain recompense for the ruined rug from his wealthy counterpart, he accepts a one-time job with high pay-off. He enlists the help of his bowling buddy, Walter, a gun-toting Jewish-convert with anger issues. Deception leads to more trouble, and it soon seems that everyone from porn empire tycoons to nihilists want something from The Dude.Sites
One of the worst movies I have even seen. I rarely turn off a movie even if it gets boring. I heard a lot of good reviews on this movie but it apparently is not my style of movie.

Movie Review: Juno

Plot (from IMDB)
A tale told over four seasons, starting in autumn when Juno, a 16-year-old high-school junior in Minnesota, discovers she's pregnant after one event in a chair with her best friend, Bleeker. In the waiting room of an abortion clinic, the quirky and whip-sharp Juno decides to give birth and to place the child with an adoptive couple. She finds one in the PennySaver personals, contacts them, tells her dad and step-mother, and carries on with school. The chosen parents, upscale yuppies (one of whom is cool and laid back, the other meticulous and uptight), meet Juno, sign papers, and the year unfolds. Will Juno's plan work, can she improvise, and what about Bleeker?Sites
Opinion - Everything below this is completely my opinion
I've read a lot of reviews that say this movie displays the wrong message about teen pregnancy so I have watched it twice trying to figure out the other reviews. I just don't see this giving off the wrong message. I think the movie handles a very touchy subject in a very real way. I have never seen a movie deal with adoption in this fashion. It was outstanding! I think Juno's ultimate decision - a definite plot twister - is the perfect ending to this movie. This gives insight into the mind of a pregnant teen while she struggles to come to terms with the world around her.

Mom Sexually Assaulted 2-Year-Old Son

According to the charges, Lee performed oral sex on her son and took photographs, sending them through e-mail to a friend who forwarded them to the 2-year-old boy's father. The father then called police.
Opinion:
I am at a loss for words. I just hope this child is NEVER returned to his mother and that she NEVER has another child. I am happy that this was found out early enough that the child has a chance of being normal instead of living with his mother for years before anyone found out. I send my wishes to the father as he will have a lot to deal with in the coming years.

Top 5 Children's Books

Someone asked me what my top 5 children's books were so I thought I'd list them here, too. I didn't hve to think too hard to come up with the first two books since the first one is my all-time favorite and I searched for a long to find a copy of it for myself. The second one was easy because I've read it oh-so-many times to the boys since they were born and T can now read it to me since he has it memorized. I had to think a little harder for the next few but they came to my mind fairly quickly. The next one is my favorite to read to the boys at bedtime. The last two were favorites of mine when I was a kid but are above the boys current attention span so they haven't heard them, yet. So here is the list:1.If You Give A Mouse A Cookie 2.Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? 3.Pajama Time 4.Where The Sidewalk Ends 5.The Giving Tree

Trysten's First Loose Tooth

While giving Trysten his bedtime medicine, he complained that his mouth was hurting so I checked his mouth and his front tooth was bleeding. It had come loose and is ready to fall out. Trysten started crying about his tooth and not wanting it to fall out. He lost his first tooth quite a long time ago when he fell on the stairs so he associates loosing a tooth with trauma. I put some ora-jel on it to help relieve some of the pain. Then, we had a discussion about why his tooth is loose and the whole tooth fairy talk. I have to dig out his tooth fairy pillow tomorrow so he can put it in when the tooth falls out.

My 4 Year Old's Brilliance

Today at dinner, the boys decide that they need to have a fortune cookie after we eat Mexican food. So, Devlyn opens is up and he hands me the fortune to read. He anxiously waits for me to read his fortune and I start laughing. I tell him that his fortune fits him to a tee. I read his fortune aloud, " Your smile brings happiness to others." He responds with a simple statement; "I know, I know." Everyone breaks out laughing at the dinner table. This is not the first of the brilliant remarks from my 4 year old. He constantly says "Your driving me up a wall." Or, "I'm only one person." He picks up some random statements that he hears and he accurately executes them at the perfect timing regularly.

Update on Hospital

We called up this morning and double checked her room assignment just in case they moved her and we found out that visiting hours started at 10a. I talked to my mom and she said that the doc would try to squeeze her in at 11:30a. Hubby and I got dressed so we could be up there when visiting hours started so we could see my mom off to surgery. We left the boys at home with the in-laws. We arrived in the parking lot of the hospital about 5 minutes to 10a and our cell rang. Hubby answered it and my mom said they were there to wheel her away for surgery. We ran, well really walked as fast as my back would allow, up to her room on the 4th floor. As the elevator doors opened, she was being wheeled right past to make the turn into the operating area. We wished her well and said we’d be waiting when she came out.The operation went smooth and she was out in no time at all. While she was in surgery, Hubby and I made phone calls to family and friends giving updates on mom’s condition. I talked for a long time with a family friend about home schooling the boys. She buys supplies for the school she works for and offered to copy and send any worksheets, books, etc that we might want or need to help with home schooling. That was wonderful to take my mind off everything going on. Once mom came out of surgery, we went to her room with her and talked to her nurse. Visiting hours were 10a-8p but as long as you weren’t disruptive after 8p, they wouldn’t kick you out. Kids were allowed on the floor and they felt that kids and family made all the difference in quicker recoveries so they encourage visitors. We found out that mom would be on a special diet for a while to help her learn to eat ‘properly’ without a gall bladder, which means pretty much a low fat or no fat diet. Not too big of a deal since most of the family has already undergone major changes in diet in the last year or so. Mom was still a little groggy from her surgery so we let her get some sleep and said we’d be back around 6ish with the boys to see her.

We grabbed a bite to eat and went home to the boys. I got together their art school stuff and let them make Grandma a card for her hospital room. They had a blast doing that but then again, they always have a blast during art time. They are quite the little artists. I didn’t have time to get pics of their art work but I’ll do that when mom gets home. Devlyn, of course, is my nurse in training and said we had to get her balloons just like they got me when I was in the hospital. We left the house late but still stopped to get balloons for them to give to her. They picked out 1 Mylar ‘Get Well Soon’ balloon and 5 latex balloons. We got to the hospital around 7ish and mom was thrilled to see the boys. Devlyn talked her ear off and wanted to know what everything was and what each thing did. Of course, he is very familiar with IVs so he was telling mom all about them; from how they work to what you put in them. The nurse came in to check on mom and had a blast talking with the boys while Devlyn showed off his nurse knowledge. He learned a great deal about IVs because I came home with a pick line and had to run an IV twice daily after my surgery. Daddy taught him it all. I think setting up my IV every time took twice as long because of the explaining to Devlyn but it was worth it. He might just be in the medical field when he’s older. He sure is very in tune with people who aren’t feeling good. He kept sharing his knowledge over and over again but mom never stopped listening to him. I could tell that the visit was good for both of them. Trysten just wanted to play and watch the TV because he saw that grandma was ok and that’s all he needed to know. Devlyn must examine and check everything out to ensure grandma is safe because he wants ‘grandma go home now’ but we told him that she needs to see her doctor tomorrow and then maybe she can go home. He made sure all her lights worked, checked her nurse call button, checked to see if she had all her ‘supplies’ (chapstick), asked a few times if she got food, and kept up with the endless questions. Once he was satisfied that all was ok, he just played with his TMNT toys we brought. Mom got a dose of pain meds in her IV so we packed up and left. She was getting sleepy when we left so I know she’ll sleep well tonight.

Hospital

I have seen way too much of the inside of a hospital this year. Yesterday afternoon, we got a call from my mom because she was not feeling well again and wanted us to pick up her medicine. She had not felt good Monday and Tuesday but had felt a little better Wednesday and Thursday. Thurday eveing, she started with the same symptoms from Monday but in greater agony. She called the doc Friday when he opened and he called in a script. He said if he didn't work, she needed to go to the hospital. Even though my mom has never had a surgery that she remembers (had one as a child) and didn't really want to go to the hospital, we didn't really give her much choice. It took almost forever to get into the ER and just as long waiting for all the results. Once everything was in, it was determined to be gall bladder stones and that she needed surgery to remove the gall bladder. They admitted her and assigned her a room. We left at this point because there wasn't much else for us to wait for. The surgeon wouldn't be able to see her until later. It was about 1am when we left and we hadn't eaten since around lunch time so we stopped at McDonalds and grabbed a small bite to eat.I called this morning and talked to her. The surgeon came in and they are trying to squeeze her in at 11:30 (about 3 hours from now) but if not, then it will be later this evening. I am going to wake hubby so he can get ready and I'm going to lay down for a quick nap. We'll head about to be there at 10a when visiting hours start so we can find out what is happening and if it's at 11:30, then we will be there when she leaves. If not, we'll find out what time she is scheduled and if kids are allowed up there so we can see her off with the boys. I hate to wake them now and I'm not sure what their kid policy is in the area she is in. I'll have to check that when I get there.

Well, I'll update when we know more. Keep my mom in your thoughts.

Trysten's First And Last Day

Well, home schooling came much earlier for Trysten than originally planned. We went Thursday to his Meet The Teacher night to find out who his teachers would be and to make sure everything was setup for him to start school. We were misled by everyone at the school so today when we took him in for his first day, they turned us away saying we had to fill out enrollment paperwork. We received that paperwork in the mail and sent it in with copies of his birth cert, proof of residency, and other stuff. At the time, we thought how stupid it was to have to provide copies of all the stuff again since he was only transferring within the district and they already had copies of all his stuff. But, we sent it in anyways and just thought they are too dumb to realize he’s coming from their preschool and were treating him as a first time student. We had various run ins over the phone with very rude front desk staff in the past so this run in was just like the rest. I was also very ticked that all the paperwork they tried to hand to me was in Spanish which last I checked was against state law. When they attempted to hand me the paperwork, I just said ‘Don’t bother. I will home school him before he goes to this school’ and walked out. I told Trysten quite loudly that he will never have to attend this horrid school and I was sorry for making him get up early for this waste of time. Oh, and another thing that got under my skin was his bus route. He is 5 years old and they want him on the bus at 6:25 but school doesn’t start until 7:55. He would be on the bus, bored out of his mind, for 90 minutes. That is like an eternity for him and he would either fall asleep and be a grouch when they woke him up or he would become super hyper and want to run around the bus. Either way, he would be a bear for them and I’d hear about it over and over again from them. All in all, I am happy with our decision. I just do not feel that Trysten would be safe at their school and I just care too much about the safety of my child to turn the other cheek. We are proud to say we home school Devlyn and I feel Trysten will benefit from being taught at home as well. I was hoping to get another year of double therapies (school and private) but we will just have to up his private therapies at our expense.

Trysten's 'Meet The Teacher Night'

Thursday night we went to Trysten's new school to find out about the school and to meet his kindergarten teacher. At first glance Trysten stands out among the school. He was the only boy with longer hair, the only kindergarten child who looked like he belong in a higher grade, and one of a few non-Hispanic children. Being Hispanic is fairly common here so I expect him to stand out for not being Hispanic. The one things that always irks me is that everything has to be done in Spanish. Now it wouldn't be so bad if Spanish followed English but Spanish is always done first. Most of the responses start out in Spanish and then they realize that I don't speak Spanish and they switch to English. That has always gotten under my skin even when I was a student in the same school district.I really liked all of his teachers. He will have a mainstream teacher for about half the day and a special needs teacher for the other half of the day. He will also see a speech, occupational, and physical therapist. We met the first three teachers (mainstream, special needs, speech) and they were very encouraging compared to the staff I have encountered. The special needs classroom has a range of children from kindergarten through fifth grade and they work on math, writing, reading, communication and social skills. They use a reading program that requires 20 min a day of at home reading which I think is fantastic for kids. Homework is given Mon-Thurs but not on weekends which is a great thing, too. They are a uniform school but the new principal (a whole other story on its own) is enforcing tucking in their shirts. I expect to hear a lot of grief about Trysten and his attire. He has never (well maybe once or twice) worn a shirt tucked in. I hate having my shirt tucked in; although it was dress code for one of my early employers. He will be a bus rider and both teachers are aware of his bus status so they can make sure someone gets him on and off the bus. They are also aware that we will take him on his first day.

After talking to both teachers, it was determined that he needs basically nothing for kindergarten. It is recommended but not required to have backpack and a folder. It would have been better if we'd known that ahead of time so we wouldn't have worried about getting school supplies. We basically got 3 of everything; one for home, one for school and one for Devlyn. Oh well, we have enough supplies to last longer than expected.

As of today, I am no longer employed by the software company where I spent almost the last 4 years. It is a sad yet happy day for me. Sad because I will surely miss my work family and the daily interaction with adults. Happy because I will now be able to focus on things that make me happy like working for myself and my family.I decided to get back into the design business and resurrect Designs By Angi and start having fun with web and graphic design again. I am also expanding to do some print design like business cards, letterheads, photo collages, etc.

I have some other things lined up and am hoping to get into a program that will pay tuition to finish my bachelor's degree. I have an appointment with this company on Monday. I have a lot to do in the next few days to finalize my lay off status and convert to self employed. I also have Devlyn's birthday coming up so gotta plan his party, too.

Well, off to my soon to be ex-employer to drop off paperwork and my badge.

Movie Review: The Dark Knight

Plot (from IMDB)
Batman raises the stakes in his war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to dismantle the remaining criminal organizations that plague the city streets. The partnership proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a reign of chaos unleashed by a rising criminal mastermind known to the terrified citizens of Gotham as The Joker.Sites
Christian Bale was fantastic as usual. When I walked out of the theater, I already wanted to see the movie again. It surpassed everything I had heard about the movie. The only thing that I wasn't fond of was the dark knight's voice but that could simply be that I think Bale's voice is perfect on it's own.

Photo IDs for the boys

A while back, we ordered some ID cards for the boys. They came a few days ago and the only problem I noticed was that they were not pre-punched to attach the lanyard we received with the purchase. We did receive two cards for each child which was a nice surprise. Thankfully, the security guys at my work were terrific and offered to punch them for me. They even gave me a breakaway lanyard for each one. I brought them home and put them on the breakaway lanyards for the boys. They loved them so much and wore them all night. They wanted to sleep with them so we had a discussion about appropriate times and places to wear their badges. We took our first trip out with the badges the other day and they boys did very well with them. They never took them off their neck which was impressive for them. We did have a minor problem with the lanyards when Trysten's came apart. Next time, we'll put them on non-breakaway or sturdier breakaway lanyards until the boys are less rowdy (if that ever happens) and will not tug at the breakaway lanyards. The boys enjoyed wearing their badges so much that they were ready to go out the next day.

LOCAL: Boy shot in head playing in yard

An 8-year-old boy was shot in the head and critically wounded while playing on a swing in his grandparents' backyard on the South Side on Monday.
The boy's 4-year-old brother was in the yard but was not hurt.
An 18-year-old man who lives nearby was arrested and charged in the shooting, which occurred at a home in the 800 block of East Drexel Road near South Park Avenue.

All I can say is WTF? The article says that the 18 yo who shot this child MEANT to shoot him. What motive would anyone have to shoot a child especially with a 4 year old next to him. I cannot wait to find out what the motive behind this was. My heart goes out to the family in their time of need.

This event also happened across the street from the school Trysten is set to attend in August.

3am and Tired

It's a few minutes before 3am and I can't sleep. I don't know what is wrong but I just cannot get comfortable. My back is sore, my leg is cramping and I am just not doing well. I don't think I'm making it to work in the morning since I haven't gotten an ounce of sleep. I am very tired but just cannot get comfortable. I wonder how long it will take to get used to sleeping after the major surgery? On another note, I was told about a great show that is on TV. If you're a parent or thinking of becoming a parent, this show is for you. It's called Baby Borrowers and is about 5 teen couples who are given the wonderful gift of being parents. They get to see all stages of parenting; infant, toddler, pre-teen and teen and just for fun, the show throws in the elderly. It's a wonderful experience for the teen couples as they adjust to parenthood and is the perfect test for their relationships.

Anyhow, I think I'm gunna get a snack and take some meds in hopes that I can sleep. We'll see if I'm still up in a few hours. I hope not. I really need to get some sleep as I haven't gotten much since I started back to to work.

Movie Review: Hancock

Plot (from IMDB)
John Hancock (Will Smith) is an unhappy and reluctant superhero who is living in his own world. For some unknown reason, Hancock is depressed and has started drinking very heavily. He has saved many lives in Los Angles over the years, but in doing so, he has no regards for damaging buildings, trains, roads, cars, or anything that gets in his way to get the job done. The last time he captured several criminals, it cost the city $9 million to fix the damages. The public has had enough of Hancock, and they want him to stop or go to another city. Then one day, Hancock saves the life of Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman) from being run over by a train. Ray is a Public Relations executive who now can go home to his wife and child, because Hancock was there. Ray owes Hancock his life, and he makes it his mission to change his superhero's image and have the public cheering him. Ray's wife, Mary (Charlize Theron), believes Hancock can not be fixed, and she doesn't want Ray to be hurt. Sites
Opinion - Everything below this is completely my opinion
This movie was fantastic. It's a great spin on your average super hero flick. Although from what I hear, avid super hero fans didn't like the movie. Maybe it's the anti-super hero fan in me that like the movie so much. It was wonderful to see a pissed off, drunk, uncaring super hero who just wants to be appreciated and has given up on our world actually caring about him. We love super heros when they're good but we really hate them when they're drunk! I really want to see this again and will be getting the DVD when it comes out.

Oh, and it might have helped a little that it had Will Smith in it. He sure can pick a good script and make the movie work. It was rumored that this might be his first July 4th movie to bomb since MIB II but that proved to be wrong. I can't wait to see what he has in store for his next big hit.

'A' Mountain Fireworks

I have never been more disappointed with our local fireworks as I was last night. The local paper put up a notice at 9:15 last night saying the fireworks were coming soon. However, they didn't start until 9:45. We packed up the boys and my nephew around 8:00 so we could get a good viewing spot to see them. The boys started getting restless around 8:50 which would have been perfect if they had started on time. Weather was partly to blame for the slow down but 45 minutes was ridiculous given the disappointing show they put on. It didn't last very long and was not very creative. After the horrible ending to a bad display of fireworks, we (my mom, hubby and I) talked about going out of town next year. We'll have to see where we sit financially but we should be able to swing it. It'll be a nice break after all we'll go through between now and then.

Aww...

There's nothing better than a long uninterrupted bath after being out in 106+ heat. Yes, you read that right...106+. It has been hitting over 100 degrees almost everyday around here and most of the time that's before noon. I hate the heat. I know you're thinking 'Why is she complaining about the heat? She has lived in Arizona all her life." Well, it's true I've always lived in this same city but it just seems like the heat is getting out of control or I have officially become old. LOL Trysten hates the heat more than I do and opts to stay home if at all possible. Devlyn tolerates the heat because he likes to be outdoors. The dogs hate the heat and will cry at the back door if they are out for more than 2 minutes. The cats avoid any spot that gets sunlight.

Some quick updates:Trysten is almost done with his summer camp. His last day is the 10th. We are in the process of getting him an AAC device which is what his summer camp is all about. His preschool added the device to his IEP and provide him one at school. It's great that he gets to use the device at school but has made home time more frustrating. He has semi-clammed up at home and reverted to using signs instead of talking. We hope that if we can get one tailored for him that we can replace the generic one the school provided. The devices are not cheap so we are researching various options for funding the purchase.

Devlyn is gaining more and more knowledge everyday. He is so smart but holds out on showcasing his intelligence. I have been working on his counting with him but he would always miss #4 and go straight to 5 from 3. However when he didn't realize I was listening, he counted right up to 10 without the skip of a beat. Maybe it helped that he was counting food and not his fingers or objects. LOL Devlyn has been getting more video game time now that he can actually control the character with better precision. Before, he get frustrated that he couldn't move right and give the controller to someone else to play for him.

As for myself, I am going back to work tomorrow. I posted an update about my back under surgery updates if you want to read more about that. I am not sure what to expect when I go back to work. I know morale will be low due to the layoffs coming but I plan to stay upbeat about it all. I have my plan and nothing will take that away. I am excited about going back to doing what I'd rather be doing than sitting answering phones all day from people who are stressed out.

Tim is doing much better with the whole ordeal as well. He's been planning out every little detail so that I don't have to go to work somewhere else. He enjoys having the flexibility of having me at home to help out and we both agree that it'll be much easier to home school if we are both at home.

My mom is somewhat of a nervous wreck lately. She's worried about Rob, Frankie and Erica and how their whole ordeal will turn out. Once it's all over, she'll be able to breathe a little easier.

Rob has been pulling a lot of crap lately. He informed us a few weeks ago that he was planning on moving to Fredericktown, MO on 7/5 with some new flame he met. He told us a few days later that he planned to marry her. He said just yesterday that the new flame has stopped using any birth control so they can have a child together. She supposedly has two already, one whom is that same age as Frankie. Rob is still going ahead with signing his rights over so he will not be legally or financially responsible for Frankie. Like father, like son. Every time Rob does anything regarding Frankie, it take mom back to her divorce and custody cases and all the stuff our father tried pulling in court. Today was the best example of them being alike. Last night, Rob called Erica yelling that Frankie had cigarette burns on his hand and saying that Erica was abusing Frankie. Apparently, he threatened to take Frankie and that Erica would never see him again. This morning, Rob turned off his cell phone, the only means of contacting him, and gave all of us a scare. Rob had Frankie and was supposed to meet Erica to get some legal documents notarized and give Frankie back to her. Rob's phone was acting like it was either off or out of range. Erica called mom worried sick that he had actually ran with Frankie. Mom called us and we tried to get a hold of Rob. After about an hour or so of not hearing from Rob, Erica was almost to the point of reporting Frankie as kidnapped when Rob called. He told Erica that this was her lesson that he could run at any time with Frankie. The only good thing that came out of this was that the legal documents got notarized so hopefully Erica can put everything behind her soon.

Well that's about it for now. I'm gunna get some work done before I go back to work at the call center for the next month.

Another Toddler Found On The Loose

'LA PORTE - Another toddler in diapers running loose has police in La Porte hard pressed to explain why so many reports have happened.

"Really, I have no idea why this stuff is going on," said La Porte Police Detective Paul Brettin.

The latest case was 8:30 p.m. Friday when a woman looked outside her residence and noticed an 18-month-old boy. The child wearing shorts over a diaper was walking out in the street in the 1400 block of Scott Street."
OPINION
What has happened to some parents nowadays? As most of you know, I have been recovering from a surgery since January. During my initial recovery, I nor my family would have thought about leaving me to care for our boys alone. I hope this mother is charged for neglect as she didn't even wake up when the police officer was yelling at her. But the bigger question in my mind is the father's whereabouts. What was more important than caring for his child? Since the mother was unaware of the father's whereabouts leads me to believe he was not working or doing anything that should interfere with his ability to care for his child. He should be questioned and, if he has no legitimate reason, charged for neglect.

LOCAL: 7 bodies discovered in desert

"U.S. Border Patrol agents discovered seven bodies of suspected illegal immigrants in Arizona's desert from Friday through Sunday as the scorching summer heat raged on.
Nearly 60 others who were suffering from dehydration or lost were rescued.
Including Monday, temperatures in Southern Arizona have exceeded 105 degrees for nine straight days and exceeded 100 degrees for 10 consecutive days, said Bill Turnerof the National Weather Service. Saturday's high was 111 degrees and Friday's 109 degrees."
OPINION
I have lived in southern AZ my entire life. Every summer our temperatures swell into the 100s. Every summer illegal immigrants attempt to cross the border and die. Why? I have never understood crossing the border in the summer. If you're going to illegally cross the border, prepare yourself for the season you choose to cross. Summer heat requires more baggage so just don't do it unless you can provide for yourself.

Here's some dos and don'ts of illegally crossing the border during 100+ degree weather.
DO
~ Bring gallons of water - this should be the bulk of your bag's weight,
~ Bring appropriate food - this should be the second bulkiest part of your bag,
~ Wear appropriate attire - this includes a hat and clothing to protect you from the sun,
~ Dress in layers - this way you control sun exposure
~ Carry identification of some sort - even if it's hand written,
~ Plan your route and stick to it, and
~ Pack everything in a bag that is comfortable for you to carry.

DON'T
~ Bring one water bottle and expect to find water in the desert,
~ Bring foods that will slow you down,
~ Travel between 11am and 4pm - it's TOO hot,
~ Cross while pregnant - it's not a smart idea, and
~ Expect my tax dollars to provide you medical care if you were ill prepared for an illegal crossing adventure.
Opinion - Everything below this is completely my opinion
A perfect family movie. Inspiring, adventurous, thrilling, and everything else you could want out of a movie. A twist to your common Loch Ness Monster story that will give you invaluable insight into the legend of the deep. Almost makes you want to be in the little boys shoes and go swimming with the 'monster'. Everyone in our family loved this movie. Even the boys sat through most of it which is rare these days.

Surgery FAQs

I have gotten tired of answering the same questions over and over so I've listed the questions and answers here.ABOUT ME
Q: How am I doing?
A: I am doing ok. My incision took an insane amount of time to heal but it is healed now. My right side is weaker than my left side due to the fluid on my spine after surgery. My physical therapist is working on an ‘at home’ exercise plan to continue strengthening my right side. I have also been given all the dos and don’ts of life after a spinal fusion and have had a handful of ouch moments when I forget a rule. The most recent ouch moment was sitting in a metal chair a week ago. I sat down and leaned back into the chair too fast and felt a ‘thud’ and then lots of pain. I won’t do that again. I choose carefully what chairs I use.

Q: How am I feeling?
A: Tired. It takes a while to get used to sleeping with a fused spine. I have had many nights where I just can’t get comfortable. It is getting better as time goes by but is still a big problem for me.

Q: Did I get taller?
A: No. I am still the same height as I was prior to surgery. LOL

ABOUT FAMILY
Q: How are the boys handling everything?
A: They are doing very well. I have to remind them about my limitations but they are getting better at remember what I can and cannot do. They are excited to have me at home with them as we’ve been doing a lot of educational activities. During my time off, we have successfully potty trained Devlyn and are almost done with Trysten. No more diapers!

Q: How is Tim (hubby) handling everything?
A: He’s adjusting to helping out more with everything I cannot do. I have taken over a lot of smaller tasks so he can do the bigger tasks.

Q: How are we doing financially with me being out of work?
A: I won’t lie, it’s been really tight but we’re managing. We eat out less, use less gas, Trysten takes the bus to and from school, and we run errands on days I have appointments.

ABOUT WORK
Q: In light of the layoffs at work, will I return to work at all?
A: Yes or I am not eligible for the severance package.

Q: Am I taking the severance package?
A: At this time, I am undecided. I am researching all my options.

We are hoping to switch that medicine to another flavor to make it easier to take. It says it's raspberry flavored but it doesn't taste like raspberries. And it stinks horribly. The new flavor will be tropical fruit and if that doesn't work, we might try a pill form. The combo of meds he is on are helping tremendously and he's a different child now. It is nice to not have to be on top of him constantly because he is being bad. It is so nice to be able to use more positive reinforcements than we have done before. For being so good, he got a new PS2 game; Ratchet & Clank. The game is similar to his favorite game; Jak & Daxter series. He seems to be doing well in his summer camp to learn to use the AAC device that the school provided to him.

Devlyn ~ He's having more and more accident free days and is so proud of being potty trained. During his entire trip to San Diego, he had no accidents even when he was far from a potty. During the Shamu show at Sea World, he told Grandma he had to go and she told him he had a pull up on and she'd try to get him to a potty but she'd understand if he had an accident. He held it until she got him to a potty. He was so proud of himself. Today, we took him out in a pull up and he still had no accidents. I think it's time to completely rid day time of pull ups, whether we stay in or go out. He hasn't done very well at night with potty training and I'm not sure how to 'train' for night time.Angi ~ I have another week of physical therapy at the hospital and then I will continue with a home workout plan. My next appointment with the neurosurgeon will be July 1st and a possible return to work on July 3rd. I'll work until the layoffs are completed and then I'll start hard on promoting my company.

Update on Rob

Well, my brother has this plan to turn his life around only I think it's gunna make it worse. The only good thing is I think he's dropped the 17 yo in lieu of someone who's gotta be older because she has a 6-7 yo daughter. The three of them are going to move to this teeny tiny farm town out in the middle of nowhere. He says there gunna get married and be a family. Now, normally I would think this would be better for him since he'd be away from his drug friends but in this case, it's not better. His license is suspended so he will not be able to transfer it. Not a big deal in our 'big' city because we have so many cops and the likelihood of running into the same one is rare. In a small town, it's the opposite. Every cop (the whole like 3 they have) will know he has no license so that means no driving for him. Ok. You're probably thinking it's no biggie to not drive and you're right except there's more. My brother cannot shut his trap to save his life. He doesn't know when to shut up to prevent a fight. He's caused quite a few minor brawls here and he's thrown punches at club bouncers. Let's just say he gets dumb when he drinks and thinks he can take on the world. I can bet there's less than 5 bars in this little town so he's gunna get himself thrown from all of them before the weeks up. Ok; he won't be able to have a drink with his new friends, so what? Wait, there's more...Criminal record. It's only a matter of time before everyone finds out he has a record and what crimes he's committed. That will not go over well with most people. Who wants a person who did a hit and run that injured a child around their family? But the biggest one is employment. He has a job lined up with the farm where his girlie friend's mom works. Well, that's a plus. The downside to that is I bet he can't keep it. He doesn't read well and won't admit it long enough to get help. Once most employers find that out, he's out of a job. He's not promotable if he cannot read higher than 3rd grade. I could bet that if I took a list of common farm words, he wouldn't recognize half of them. So let's say he loses this job, then what? What else is there to do in a teeny town? Market or grocery store. He can't be a cart wrangler as I don't see them having many carts in a mom and pop grocery store. He can't be a cashier because he's, well, just not good with money and counting. He could stock shelves but I doubt they need a stocker for the next 60 years. Next, mom and pop restaurants. He can't be a waiter as he has horrible memory and would have trouble with custom orders. He could be a dish washer but I doubt he'll want to do that type of a job. He can't be a short order cook because he can't read. He could be a busboy, if they even have those, but again I doubt for the next 60 years.

I hope he can overcome these obstacles and make it better for himself but he's not starting out on the right foot. He already plans to lie to them about his driver's license. In a 'big' city, that would be ignored but in a little town, he can gain some serious enemies and fast. Wait until he starts hitting on the teens there and see how that sits with the townsfolk.

Oh, and on that ticket he got for inappropriate acts in the park. The judge is offering him two weekends in jail so he can keep his job. He hasn't even told the courts that he's moving. That's gunna cause a warrant for his arrest to be issued because he won't show up to his next court date.

Oh, and on Frankie. He's giving up his rights but won't be there for the court case because he has his new life.

Potty Training Update

As most of you know, we have struggled to potty train Trysten. I don't understand it but Trysten has had a major breakthrough in the last couple days. He got sick and got diarrhea on Tuesday (his bday) and after a few accidents, something clicked. Last night he had probably 6-8 trips to the potty with diarrhea and...HE MADE IT to the potty before having an accident. He did have one small accident but given that he was sick, that's pretty good. I hope whatever clicked for potty training stays with him. He's also been in underwear or naked everyday since Tuesday. He's had one accident on the floor, 2 throw ups, and one accident on his bed. Other than those accidents, he's made it to the potty every time. Both accidents were poop so he's still got pee under control. Trysten has been getting better with night time wetting but still wears a pull up BUT only after he has fallen asleep or he will wet it while he's awake.

Devlyn hasn't had accident since Saturday evening and has been in underwear from the moment he wakes up until he gets ready for bed. He has about a 50/50 chance at having a bedtime accident so he still wears a pull up to bed.

Dad took both of them to Taco Bell after picking them up at Grandma's last night and they both wore underwear and had no accidents in the van. They both made a beeline for the potty when they got home though.

We are so proud of their accomplishments.

Why Oh Why?

Why do children come directly for you when they feel like throwing up instead of going to the bathroom which in some cases is closer than you are? Can you tell we've got a sick child in the house. Trysten threw up yesterday morning after having tummy pains and taking some pepto. He was blah yesterday but seemed to be better by day's end only to wake up this morning with diarrhea and more vomiting. And it doesn't help that I haven't slept well in days because of my changing from percocet to motrin to Tylenol. Aww...the world of parenting. Don't ya love it?

Trysten's 5 Year Check Up

Today, Trysten turned 5, got sick and went in for a check up. Poor baby. He woke up as he does every day but when he went out to play on the computer everything changed. After a few minutes, I went to check on him and see if he needed any help. He was siting on the floor hunched over holding him tummy. I asked him what was wrong and he just whimpered. I asked him if his tummy was hurting and he shook his head yes. I escorted him to the bathroom to get medicine. He got almost all of his morning meds down except the Super Nu Thera. He kept hunching over in pain and saying his tummy hurt and I told him that once he took this medicine that he could lay down and I'd rub him tummy to make it better. He took a swig of the medicine and...proceeded to throw up all his meds on the bathroom floor. I helped him to the potty and told him that if he needed to do that again to put it in the potty. I called for hubby to come help me. He brought a couple towels and took over with Trysten. I cleaned up the mess and hubby took the towels to do the laundry. We'll have to gather some other clothes and stuff to make a full load. I never realized that throw up has such a horrible stench until now. What did people do before Febreze. I sprayed that and wow, the smell was gone. And not just that flowered over smell is gone but really gone. Trysten seemed to get better after he ate a little toast and drank some flavored water. A few hours later, he was horsing around with Devlyn and playing games. Then it was time to go to the doctor for his check up. He fell asleep in the car which is very unlike him. When we got to the doc's, Trysten was still asleep and was not very cooperative with his check up. He kept wanting to sit down or lay down instead of doing what they needed to do. Trysten weighed 49 lbs (93% - average for him) and was 44 in tall (75% - below average for him so he's probably ready for a growth spurt). He completed the vision test and did very well given that he is non-verbal. He had a strep culture done which came back negative. The doc asked him what hurt and he did very well with his responses. The doc understood almost everything Trysten said. That alone is an amazing step for him. Most people do not understand him at all but his doc and the staff understand him as much as we do. The doc checked his ears, nose and throat. All clear there. Trysten gave a urine sample and that was clear also. So, Trysten is healthy other than the little bug that he has right now. The doc said to keep him hydrated, give him his meds and to watch him in case he gets worse.

Then it was Devlyn's turn for an unexpected surprise. Since there is a major outbreak in our area for the measles, they gave Devlyn is booster today instead of waiting until his birthday when they normally would give it. He took the shot very well with only a minor jerk when they stabbed his leg. He was busy looking at the bandaid which had animals on it when she put the needle in so he wasn't prepared. He fell asleep on the way home but is up and running now.

Icky Sickies

Well, Trysten is sick and on his birthday. Poor baby. He woke up and appeared to be doing ok but then after he got on the computer, he doubled over in pain. He kept saying his tummy was hurting so I made him go take some medicine. That was a great idea except that he puked it all up on the bathroom floor. He says his tummy doesn't hurt now so maybe he's getting better but I doubt it.He is just laying in his bed watching Noggin. He doesn't seem interested in getting up or playing. He's just laying there with a piece of uneaten toast and some flavored water. I have never seen him this out of it. He has his 5 year check up today in a few hours so if he's not better, we'll talk to the doctor about it. I might not be around a lot today so I can deal with him being sick but I'll update later.

Back Update

The doctor says my back is now confirmed as healed. I start physical therapy soon for 3 weeks. I will see the doctor on Tuesday after my last PT appointment for a work release, if ready, to start back on Thursday. I'll work Th & F and then have the weekend off. I'll do a full day on Mon and half day on Tues and see the doc Tues afternoon to get my final release if all is working well for me.I have update the mailing list and called the lawyer about the therapy. Once I have a confirmed PT time setup, I will let the LOA company know the dates of the upcoming appointments.

I am excited about going back to work and chatting up a storm with all my co-workers but am worried about getting back into the swing of being on the phones again. I know a lot has probably changed and I'll have to learn through trial and error. Some of the guys/gals are working from home so I hope they'll be in the office the day I come back. I've talked to a lot of them through email or MySpace while I've been out so I am fairly up to date on most work stuff.
That's about it for now so I'm going to do a few things around the house.

High School Memories

I stumbled across my yearbooks and thumbed through them. Of course all the memories came flooding back. Pep rallies, hanging out behind the math building, the grassy area between the math and science buildings, working for Mrs Giltner and so much more. I read through all the signatures from my classmates and could almost hear the person's voice reading them to me. I had such a wonderful 4 years in high school that sometimes I wish just for one day, I could be back in high school with everyone. I miss my high school friends, a few of the teachers, the administration, the clubs and everything else I was involved in. I remember fighting school uniforms, getting written up for using foul language (LOL), and all the other non sense fun we got into.I remember so many people but the ones that stick out the most are Amber, Heather, Robert, TeJay, Wallo, Mark, Dana, all the drama crew, Sabrina, Shawna, and a lot more. I know where a few of you are (thanks to MySpace and Classmates) but some are a mystery. Well, I think I'll stop daydreaming about high school and get back to real life. I have a few things to get done before I go back to work.

More updates

My mom is looking forward to the trip to San Diego. She'll get to spend some one on one time with Devlyn and get to see her brother and his wife who live in San Diego. She had a blast when she took Trysten when he was 3. She's taking both pull ups and underwear for Devlyn and will decide which to use based on how he's doing. We take Devlyn out in underwear but I'm not sure how he will respond with the trip aspect. We haven't heard much from my brother but he does show up randomly so we know he's at least alive. He has called for 'favors' like finding phone numbers, money (which he doesn't get), help with legal battles, and all the normal stuff. He got arrested and released at the scene a few weeks ago for indecent exposure and lewd conduct. He was having sex with his 17 year old girlfriend in a public park. The 17 year old had to be released to her parents so her father had to come down to the park to pick up his daughter. Her father is absolutely furious with the two of them for obvious reasons. Let's see...who else can I update about. Oh, the in-laws. They are fighting a disability denial for my MIL. They applied for housing assistance but were told until her dispute was settled, the state won't help them with housing. So, they are stuck having nothing which means they stay here. I have suggested to my dh that he push them out on their own even if it's into one of those weekly/monthly hotel/motel type places. They have enough money if they pull a few resources together. They can sell the 'new' van they got and pay off that bill. Use the remaining money to pick up a run down but reliable vehicle to get them to and from appointments or use the bus system, if needed. My FIL gets disability so they would have enough to pay for a weekly hotel/motel. We are selling most of their belongings that they brought from CA so they won't need a storage unit anymore. They realized that most of what they brought was merchandise they were selling back in CA and since they cannot run a shop here they might as well get rid of it. They get food stamps from the state so they don't have to worry about food. And if they do it, they'll be on their own and out of my hair. Who else? Oh, Erica loved her Mother's day gift. She moved into some apartments right up the road from us. She now thinks that since she is closer to us that she has daycare whenever she needs it. She keeps believing that my brother will actually help her when he says he will. I don't know how long it will take her to learn not to depend on him for anything. He rarely comes through when he says he will do something and if he does come through, it's usually late. They have a court date to finalize cutting Rob's legal responsibility for Frankie so we'll see how that goes. Erica and Tony are still together and seem to be doing well. Who else? Hmm...I think that it's for now.

A few updates on us

Trysten had so much fun showing all the classroom stuff to Devlyn during his last day of preschool. I'm a little concerned about his potty training for kindergarten now that I've seen him in action at school. It seems like he holds it in until he comes home. He went right before we left and had a fit when I asked him if he had to go about half way through his class. He only went when the classroom made a trip to the potty at the start and end of class. We'll see how kindergarten goes once he starts. He's fairly good at home but we let him run around naked half the time because he has less accidents that way. We figure during the summer, we'll slowly decrease the amount of days he's naked so hopefully he'll be fully trained by the time he starts kindergarten.

Devlyn is almost done with his training. He pretty much is completed with the pee part and has only a few random accidents now. He is getting much better with poop but still has to be reminded daily. He's doing much better with night training now that we are better at not letting them have drinks later in the evening. He got a lot of new underwear and was so excited when I showed him. He told me he's a big boy and doesn't need baby diapers anymore. Although we still use pull ups on occasion. Devlyn is getting excited about going to San Diego with Grandma in a few weeks. Grandma bought him a new backpack to take on the plan that has wheels so he can tug it behind him while they walk through the terminal. He kept packing it full of toys so we got him some new special toys. We packed those new toys and put the backpack up in the closet so he'll forget about it. He's going to have so much fun in San Diego and I hope he gets over the missing mom and dad part fast.I have a doctor's appointment today to see about returning to work. My back appears to be healed but we have to get the 'official' word from the doctor. I'm not sure if I'll go into physical therapy or just back to work so we'll find that out today, too. If I do go back to work, we'll find out what restrictions I will have and start the process to get me back to work. If I do PT, I'll have to find a doctor and set up appointments. Either way, I'll need to call my lawyer and update my case. Once I am back to work, they can start the legal proceedings. I don't know what to expect for the legal portion and get nervous thinking about it. I'd hate to have to go to court just because it's a pain with taking time of work, getting care for the kids, sitting in a icky courtroom, and all that jazz.

Dh is doing well. He's busy with his new startup company and if all goes well, I can stay home with the kids again. I'll be a work at home mom and be working with the new start up and on my own company which I have been letting slide due to not being available to work on sites. Dh is taking me out for dinner tonight for my birthday. Not sure where I want to go but I want it to be something different than we normally do.

Trysten's Appointment

Trysten had his follow up appointment with the behavioral specialist today. He asked how the supplements have been working and how potty training has been going. We gave him an update on Trysten and the doctor watched him interact with Devlyn. This was an eye opener for the doctor since he hadn't seen the two boys interact since I am usually not able to go to the appointments and Dad is unable to take both with him. The doctor got to see a little bit of the hyperactivity that we've been trying to explain to every doctor Trysten has seen. This is the first doctor that has been helpful with Trysten. For one thing, he is very supportive of not medicating a child until natural remedies have been exhausted. Another reason, is that most of his patience have some behavioral problem and he understands each one is different and will respond differently. He is not ready to diagnose Trysten as ADD/ADHD due to his age but thinks with time, Trysten will be labeled ADD/ADHD unless we can control the effects with natural remedies. The first thing we talked about was Trysten's hyperactivity. The doctor suggested an herb that we can give Trysten that will help slow him down. It's commonly used as a herbal sleep remedy but was tested on ADD/ADHD children overseas with amazing results. You have to play with the dosage until you get the right combination but you cannot over medicate on it. If you give too much of the herb, the worst thing that can happen is drowsiness. I am hoping that it will also help with his bed time since he can stay awake as late as 4a and still get up at 10a. Hopefully with this herb, Trysten's brain will slow down a little bit and give his body a chance to respond before Trysten moves on to the next thing.

The next (and last) thing we talked about was potty training. We have a hard time getting Trysten to poop in the potty when he is clothed (diaper, pull up or underwear). The doctor said to buy Trysten a 'special' PS2 or computer game which he only gets when he poops in the potty. We've never had a 'special' item that he ONLY gets when he poops. It's always been other forms of positive rewards, like stickers, play time, computer, game time, marbles, etc and those have failed us. I feel like having a special item won't work but am willing to try anything to get this potty training completed.

Happy Mother's Day

I'm feeling a lot better so we're still planning the dinner tonight to celebrate. Trysten stayed the weekend with my mom so it's been a quiet weekend. I've been relaxing all day and hubby's been tending to Devlyn. It's been great just relaxing and watching whatever I want and doing what I want without worrying about Trysten and Devlyn being at each other's throat.Dinner should start around 5pm. My mom is bringing Trysten home at that time and will stay for dinner. I'm not sure if Erica will be staying for dinner but I hope she drops by at some point for her gift. Oh, I forgot to mention that she's planning on moving closer to the family. She'll be just around the corner from us in a few weeks. She's realizing that having family, even if it's not her family, is a tremendous help to get through things. She's having a hard time dealing with everything. She wants to move to TX to be with her mom before her mom gets worse. For those of you who don't recall, Erica's mom is dying of cancer and Erica has only seen her a handful of times since her mom moved to TX a few years ago. Erica won't get to move until after all the stuff with Frankie gets sorted out in the court system. Erica has to terminate Rob's parental rights, switch the legal insurance provider from Rob to herself, get Frankie tested for an IEP, get insurance for Frankie and a few other things before she can move. Some she's already started the ball rolling but others must wait until all the court stuff is done.

The gifts, excluding Erica's, were given last weekend so there will be no gifts to my knowledge. I'm thrilled with my gifts, the tomato plant and lemon tree. Now, if they would only produce some fruit. LOL

That's about it for now. I am gunna work on some site ideas cause I have some free time and I love to create things.

Our ER Adventure & Updates

Thursday morning, I woke up with horrible abdominal pains and could hardly move. They were sorta like contractions as they would start out mild pain, build to horrible pains, and then taper out to a mild pain again. I would have moments where I'd have no pain but those were few and far apart. I felt so horrible that hubby called 911 and the fire dept showed up to check me out. They ran all my vitals and said nothing was out of norm for my symptoms. They offered 3 options, be transported via ambulance, or have hubby take me to ER or urgent care. My sugar level was 57, pretty low but not bad since I hadn't been able to keep anything down for the last 24 hours but water. I let hubby decide what to do since I was in too much pain to care what happened as long as I got rid of them pains. Hubby said he'd take me so I didn't have to ride in the ambulance alone. The fire fighters helped get me into the van and Devlyn waved bye to me from the house. He stayed with Grandma Cindy and Papa while Daddy took me in. I was in so much pain, all I did was dry heave and squeeze the chair the whole ride. Hubby thought urgent care would be faster and cheaper so we went there.Urgent care took a while to get me in and I spent half of the wait time in the bathroom dry heaving or having diarrhea. I even got to a point where I felt faint and had to lay down. Once I got called back and checked out, the PA said she'd give me a shot of an anti-nausea med and I'd wait 20-30 min for it to take effect. If it worked and stopped my abdominal pains, I could go home. If not, I'd have to go to the ER. We waited and waited but it didn't make them much better. I was still hunching over in pain every so often and the doc said I'd better go to the ER for IV fluids and to run some more tests. She gave us the paperwork and off we went. Hubby stopped at McD's to get something to eat because he hadn't eaten much and it was already 4pm. We got the the ER around 5pm and checked in. They did all my vitals and registration. Finally around 7pm, I got called back. They did some more examining and listening to my abdominal area. I got hooked to an IV (my arm is black and blue now from it) and they started IV fluids. They needed a urine sample but I just didn't have anything to give. They put two bags of IV fluids in me before I had enough to give a sample. By now, the shot that urgent care gave me kicked in more and more as time went by. I had no more diarrhea or nausea but the abdominal pains still were pretty strong. They ran a number of tests and everything came back normal but they kept pumping IV fluids in me until the abdominal pains were getting better. Hubby called my mom to give her an update because she had picked up the boys to give Grandma Cindy and Papa a break. While hubby was talking to my mom, she said 'I have to go. Trysten is bleeding badly' and hung up. She called back a few minutes later and told hubby what had happened and asked if she should bring him in.

He was climbing on the kitchen table to get a toy and when he attempted to get down, he slipped on a puddle (Elmo - grandma's dog - had an accident) and slammed his nose into the kitchen table. He immediately became sleepy and his nose wouldn't stop bleeding. Hubby told her to bring him to the ER to get checked out since he wouldn't stay awake and was still bleeding. Grandma dropped Devlyn with Grandma Cindy and Papa so he could go to bed at home and rushed Trysten to met up with us. I got released from ER while Trysten was waiting to get a bed in the ER. They gave me two scripts, one for ab pains and one for nausea. I went out and waited with Daddy, Trysten and Grandma in the lobby. Trysten was very active when I got out but his nose looked horrible and he kept sniffing. While waiting to go back, Grandma kept him awake by playing games with him. He sang a song counting in spanish, asked him to point out words he recognized in magazine, asked him what each word started with and then what other words started with that letter. He found the word 'the' and was all excited because it started with T and so does his name. Then he pointed out the tree and trash can in the lobby started with T also. One lady waiting asked Grandma if she made everything educational when she played and she told the lady 'Of course. He's at the age where education if fun and if we don't keep making it fun, he'll lose interest in learning.' The lady played along with Trysten and he had her laughing so much. It was amazing to see a stranger interact and semi-understand a few things he was saying. Trysten got called back talked up a storm with the nurse, who took a liking to him. She walked him around the ER to get his heart rate instead of using the machine. She showed him the paperwork she had to fill out. She encouraged him to take his temp using the mouth thermometer instead of the 'baby' one. He wanted to stay with her all night. She had him count and name numbers on the paperwork. He had a blast despite having a bloody, swollen, black and blue nose. He did very well when the doctor examined his nose. He explained exactly what happened and told the doc where it hurt most. He answered every question the doctor asked. We had to translate some of what he was saying but the nurse and doc understood a decent amount without us. I guess since the talk to people in a traumatic state, it makes it easier for them to understand hard to understand speech. The doc said it might or might not be broken but there was nothing they could do at the moment, as it did not need emergency surgery. Due to the swelling, he was unable to tell if it was broken and recommended that we follow up with a ear, nose, and throat specialist to determine if he broke it and if it would need anything done to fix it. We left the ER around 2am and Trysten had to be woke up every 4 hours all night long just to make sure he would wake up and respond. If he didn't wake up or was inconsolable, we had to take him back to the ER. However, he did very well every time we woke him up but since he was so sleepy from his ER trip, we opted to not take him on his field trip on Friday. He was a little disappointed but he understood that he was too tired to go see the dinosaurs.

Friday, Trysten did very well. He won't let anyone touch his nose but I made him lay down long enough to clean up the dried blood with a baby wipe. I figured the baby wipe would be softer and easier on his nose. Once I got it cleaned up, it looked a little better. He was his normal active self just with a swollen black and blue nose. He kept his ER band on his wrist all day. I was still having abdominal pains but they were tolerable with the meds. I was supposed to take every 4-6 hours but I only took 1 in the morning and 1 before bed. I only took 1 of the anti-nausea one when my tummy starting getting that icky feeling. The boys both went to Grandma's house in the afternoon like normal and I got some more sleep. I even kept a little food down. I'm on a bland diet so I got some plain french fries (no salt) in the afternoon and a bagel in the evening. Trysten and Devlyn had a minor argument when leaving Grandma's house Friday night. Devlyn now says he's not Trysten's friend anymore because Trysten wanted to stay the night at Grandma's with Frankie.

Today, I am feeling much better and the pains are very minor. My sinus' are clearing up, too. On top of all the pain I was having, I also had a horrible sinus cold. I went through two whole boxes of tissue in three days and had to open up my third box this morning. Devlyn's been my shadow all day today. He hasn't left the room even though Daddy said he'd put on Noggin in the living room so he could play and watch preschool. Devlyn said 'No. Mommy need me. She sick.' He did leave me for a few moments while he helped Daddy with the lemon tree and tomato plant. They water them every day and they are doing well so far. We did have a minor incident with the tomato plant. We went to bed one night (Tues, I think) and when we woke up, the planter had been tipped over and something had tried to dig up the tomato plant. Hubby replanted it and tied the planter down so whatever little creature got to it couldn't tip it over again. I haven't called to check on Trysten but I'm sure he's doing fine since it was ok yesterday. I've been sleeping a lot to get better and I think it's working. Well that's it for the updates so I am going to find something to eat. Still on a bland diet so it'll be a boring meal but at least I can start eating normal tonight if i can keep this meal down. I think I might get some fries, chips or toast. Whatever is out there, will be fine.

Trysten in BIG trouble

Trysten got into the most trouble he's ever gotten into tonight. Devlyn and him were running around playing and laughing. No one was hitting or pushing each other which is a miracle for them since they are constantly pushing each other while they play. Well Trysten came running into our bedroom chasing Devlyn, who was coming in to tell me something, and shoved him right into the corner of our bed. Trysten laughed like it was the funniest thing he saw. Devlyn was screaming bloody murder and bleeding from his mouth badly.I jumped off the bed, grabbed Devlyn and took him into the bathroom to cleanup and see how bad it was. Trysten just skipped of laughing about it. I yelled for Tim to go get Trysten. He came into the bathroom worried about Devlyn and wanting to know what happened. I told him what Trysten did and he said he would go get him. Devlyn wanted to call Grandma and tell her, he calls her every time something happens as he loves talking to her and she always makes him feel better.

Devlyn's blood was coming primarily from his tooth (the same one Frankie tried to knock out at Xmas) and Devlyn keeps touching it and asking me if he's going to lose it. He cries when he asks if he's gunna lose it like his world fall apart if he lost a tooth. I gave him some motrin and now he seems a lot better. He's awaiting his brownies. Before the whole incident, the boys and I made brownies and they were in the oven when the incident occurred.

Trysten lost 4 marbles (the most ever taken for one incident so far) and got a spanking and timeout. He also was told no brownie if he even makes one bad move before they are done.

Well, I am off to get the brownies out so they can cool before bedtime. We might sneak a taste before we go to bed. They're really for tomorrow after lunch but I thought I'd give them a lot of time to cool since the kids hate waiting and want to burn their tongues to eat them.

Update on Dani & Ashley

When we ran into Dani at the fair she gave us an update on her life. She's not dating the guy she was with for so long. She has made up her classes so she can graduate next year with the rest of her class. She was so proud of herself but said the hardest part was taking freshman classes as a junior and feeling out of place in the classes. As a child, we all thought she would be the worst of her siblings. Her mother passed away when she was young and she was very rebellious. She lived with her father who was getting up in age, low in health points and was not a very strong parental figure for her. With that combination, we all thought she'd be the forgotten one and not do well for herself. She is proving us all wrong. She took a look at her life and realized she needed help and she got it. A friend's mom has been helping her get to and from appointments to get the help she desperately needed. Dani also gave us an update on Ashley. Ashley is...expecting baby #2 with Daddy #2. She was the one girl out of all of their shared father's girls that we thought would take off and fly higher than a kite. However, Dani has surpassed Ashely and Dani hasn't graduated yet. Ashely graduated a year early and was in college by the time she was 17. She knew what she wanted to do and was headed on that direction until she met a guy. She got pregnant, married and settled down. She then lost all sight of what she wanted and was in an abusive relationship. She left him with her infant daughter and moved back home with Dani and their shared Dad. Their father helped her out and got her out of the relationship and back on her feet. She moved out and apparently is repeating the same thing she did the first time she moved out. She was/is struggling to raise one baby and is now expecting a second one. I really hope she gets her act in gear and does better for herself and her two children.

Well that's about it on both of them. I wish them the best in life.

It's Fair Time Again

My mom and I took the boys to the county fair. We got the boys $20 in tickets which translated to 5 rides each. They both went on the pirate ship, pink elephants, choo choo train, dragon coaster, and the rocket coaster. Trysten got an extra ride on the 4x4 trucks because he got in line and Devlyn decided last minute that he didn't want to go on that ride. Then, Devlyn refused to go on any ride without Trysten so we had to get $2 more in tickets for Trysten to ride with Devlyn on the rocket coaster.
After the rides the boys wanted a treat so, we stopped and got Devlyn a scoop of ice cream and got Trysten a banana shake. Of course, they shared with each other because they wanted what each other had. We then walked around looking at everything. The boys said they were hungry so we got them pizza on a stick. Devlyn ate about 1/4 to half of his and Trysten ate his entire pizza. We sat near the bears while the boys snacked. We then hit the petty zoo and the boys fed all the animals. After feeding the animals, we washed our hands and headed to the halls to see some of the exhibits. We went by the elephants and the boys wanted to ride. Grandma, Trysten and Devlyn took a ride on the elephant. I wish I could have done some of the rides with them but everything said 'no back injury' and 'no recent surgeries' so I was out of luck. After that we headed to the hall that had the motorcycle exhibit and the boys each got a pencil and t-shirt that said "Look out for motorcycles." We were gunna head out but Trysten spotted the jumping castle so we went over to see how much it cost. The lady said it was free and so was the play area they had setup around the jumping castle. So, they were up and in the castle faster than their shoes could come off their feet. They had so much fun. Then they got the surprise of the night, a surprise to all of us. Dani appeared out of no where and gave us hugs. Apparently, she was working at the fair after school and on weekends. I'll post an update on her shortly. The boys were so excited to see her that they came out of the jumping castle and they gave her big hugs. She showed them how to rope cattle (they had a hay bull and horse) and cactus. Then they jumped some more in the castle and Dani got in with them. They were the only kids for a while so she was horsing around with them like she used to do when she came over to Grandma's house. Dani got some ice cream from the shop next door and shared with the boys. Then we told them it was getting late and we needed to head home but they wanted to stay with Dani. We eventually got them out but they wanted another snack so we stopped at the ice cream place and got two scoops of ice cream in bowls and lemonade.

We headed out to the parking lot and got them and their stuff loaded into Mom's car. They had ice cream and lemonade in hand but both feel asleep before we got onto the freeway so I ate Devlyn's ice cream and saved Trysten's for Daddy. Trysten stayed asleep but got up at 6am this morning. Devlyn woke up shortly after getting home and went to bed at his normal time.

I was in charge of taking photos so I the pictures are a not up to Dad quality. I will be sending out a link to the photos and a couple videos I took as well once I get them all sorted and uploaded.

Update on My Half Sister Search

Thanks to a great person (my brother's ex girlfriend, Amber) I found some more information on my half sister. Her name is Samantha Jean. Given that I am almost 100% positive that she has my father's last name, I found 2 exact matches in some searches hubby did for me. One lives in MS and one in TX. One is 18 and one is 16 so both in the age range I expected. I heard back from one of the one's I contacted on MySpace and she was not my half sister. The other one I am waiting to here from. I have never been this close to finding her since I talked to her back in 1998 or 1999. I also remembered her mothers name Ellen Stuart (or Stewart) so this might help me narrow down to find her. Gosh, I cannot wait to find her.I am walking on clouds...and cannot thank Amber enough for helping me. She found my father's MySpace which I never thought to look for since I wrote him out of my life. On his profile, he says he wants to meet his daughter, Samantha Jean.

Movie Review: 21

Kevin Spacey gave a great performance in this movie. It was very engaging and thrilling watching these college kids make loads of money and keeping one step ahead of the "eyes in the sky". Fantastic movie which I will be getting on DVD when it comes out (or shortly thereafter LOL)

Searching For Siblings

I've been thinking a lot about my half sister whom I've only talked to a few times but never met. When I was younger my mom got a letter from a woman whom had married my father stating that she understood a lot of what my mom had gone through as she was going through it now. She told my mom she was pregnant and divorcing my father. A few months later we got another letter saying that the baby was born and it was a little girl which my father has chosen to not support. As expected, my father bailed on another child he created. He bailed on me, my brother and countless other siblings I know and may not know about. Here's some info about my father and half sister...and if any of you have any information about them, please contact me.Father Info
John Joseph Boutwell currently residing in Allentown, PA with a wife and daughter (the only one he appears to support)

My half sister is between 16 and 20 in my best guesstimate. Her name is Samantha Boutwell. I think her mom passed away a few years ago in a possible drug related incident. I think she now lives with her maternal grandmother or possibly out on her own. I talked to her over the phone when she lived in Tucson, AZ when she was around 8-10 years old. I believe she was born in Texas, possibly the Corpus Christi area. Her mother's name escapes me at the moment. I've contacted 2 possible matches on MySpace so crossing fingers on that.

I have been told that I have other half siblings but I have no information on them at all. I believe one (a boy) was born years before I was born when my father was 17-20 but I'm not sure how accurate that is. When I was a tween, my father told me he's aware of 2-3 other sisters but he's not sure they are his children. I don't know how many siblings I might have out there but I'd like to hear from any of them out there.

Movie Review: National Treasure: Book of Secrets

Plot (from IMDB)
While Ben is presenting new information about John Wilkes Booth and the 18 pages missing from Booth's diary, one man stands up and presents a missing page of John Wilkes Booth's diary. Thomas Gates, Ben's great-grandfather, is mentioned in the page. It shows that Ben's great-grandfather could have been involved with Abraham Lincoln's murder. When doing more research, the conspiracy takes Ben, Abigail, and Riley to Buckingham Palace (which they break into). It takes them to a book in the White House (which they break into also) and they even steal a page from the book. But in order to see more from the book, their choice is either get elected president or kidnap the President of the United States. Which do they choose? It's obvious. The conspiracy then crosses to Mount Rushmore and they even mention the JFK conspiracy. Can Ben clear his family's name? Or will his family be linked to the murder of Abraham Lincoln?Sites

Opinion - Everything below this is completely my opinion
Normally sequels are not as good as the original but this one was far from that way. The second one had a few moments of lag but the majority of the movie was high paced fun race across the world on a treasure hunt. They used real locations and real conspiracies to draw you into the movie which were fantastically played out to of course search for a treasure as important as the first find all while trying to clear the family name from being tied to the Lincoln assassination.

Marble Reward System

We instituted a marble reward system based off an episode of Nanny 911 I watched a few weeks ago. It helped potty train the youngest in the show that I thought I'd try it out for everything the kids love to do and make them earn their 'fun' time. Here's a break down of how they earn and spend their marbles.Earning Marbles
Potty, pee : 1 marble
Potty, poop : 2 marbles
Behaving during school time : up to 4 marbles
Helping Daddy scoop doggie poop : 5 marbles ( Can you tell Daddy hate scooping poop? LOL)
Cleaning up their area after a meal : 1 marble if they put in sink, 2 marbles if they discard food in trash and put dishes in sink
Taking their 'good' medicine : 1 marble
Taking their 'bad' medicine : 1 marble
Brushing their teeth (includes mouthwash) : 1 marble
Going to bed without incident : 1 marble
Staying in their bed all night : 1 marble
Getting up and trying to potty first thing when they wake up : 1 marble whether they go or not

Spending (or Losing) Marbles

Potty Training Updates

Well, we have been doing really well with the potty. Trysten is potty trained entirely as long as he runs around naked. As soon as you put a barrier (underwear, pull up or diaper), he regresses and goes in the barrier. Devlyn is almost trained and has a few accidents but primarily around times when he is unable to get to the potty (or undressed) fast enough. He was having a lot of poop accidents but we solved that by forcing him to run around naked until he pooped in the potty. He is so attached to his clothes that it was devastating for him and he's pooped in the potty ever since the naked incident. We also instituted a marble based reward system for almost everything they do. More details are here.

They get one marble everytime they pee in the potty and two when they poop in the potty. They also lose one or two if they have not true accidents, i.e. playing and just forgetting to go. If they start in the underwear and finish in the potty, we consider that an accident and they still earn their marble(s). They get so excited to get their marbles and love using them for lego and TV time.

Update on Mom

My mom did her annual exam and the doc said she might need to go in for surgery within the next year or so and have a hysterectomy. Something about certain organs not being in the right place and since she has no plans to have any more children (she's happy with having all the grandkids so she can send them home LOL), a hysterectomy would be her best option. As expected, she is very upset and concerned about having surgery. She has only had one other surgery at the age of 10 to remove her tonsils. I know she will do very well but I understand being worried about surgery since I have just gone through the whole waiting and knowing that I have to go through one and have now been dealing with the recovery phase.

She knows we will be there to do whatever we need to do to help her through her recovery. Her surgery will be common surgery so unless something complicates the surgery/recovery she will be fine. The boys don't understand but will once it gets closer. They will love to help Grandma get better since they help so much with me, I know they'll do well with her.

Well that's about it and the boys are asleep so I am off to bed.

Update on Wound Care

I went in for the new treatment they called about Sunday. I am so upset. It's nothing different or new. Not even any new medication. They spent less than a few minutes with me just to due a standard dressing change which Tim could have done at home.Needless to say, I am calling tomorrow and talking to the main person to see if they were supposed to due something different and if not, then I am canceling my appointment on Friday. It cost way too much just to go in for a dressing change that Tim can do at home. And the original nurse said I could easily cut back to once a week because Tim was doing such a great job changing it out and they didn't need to see it more often. I will probably keep my appointment for the following Friday so it'll be like 10 days apart and maybe it will just be healed by then. I have been cutting back on my percocet, too. I was taking two in the morn, two in the afternoon and two in the evening. I cut it back to two in the morn and two in the evening.

Next step will take the two in the morning and make it one in the morn and one in the afternoon but only if needed. After that, it'll be one in morn, one in afternoon (if needed) and one before bed. I wanna be totally off the meds by the time I go back to work or at least using as little as possible. I hated living on Vicodin just to make it through the day at work.

Well, the boys are almost asleep so I'd better get off here and get my own butt to bed since I am getting tired. The new way they are packing my wound makes me so sleeping but I don't know why. Maybe its the added stress on the open wound that makes me hurt a little more which makes me wanna sleep off the pain instead of taking medicine for it. My solution for not feeling good is always lots of liquids and much more sleep. I hate medicine though as most of you already know. I'd rather sleep off the illness than take meds.

Wound Vac

We took the HUGE box in to my appointment Sunday afternoon only to find out we couldn't use any of it. They measured it and apparently over the last 10 days it has gotten to small for the vac they ordered. Hubby agrees that the night I had the unusual discharge that the 3 holes have dramatically gotten smaller. The two tiny holes have almost closed entirely and the larger one is much smaller. They measured the larger hole at about 1 cm (I think the do it in cms anyways) deep, 0.9 cm wide and about 3 (I think) cm long. The nurse called the doc and thankfully he was on call so she talked to him and he said just to keep doing what we are currently doing now. She said she was going to leave a note for the primary nurse and see if we can start using a different medicine which would help make the whole decrease.

Tim got a call later that evening saying that they have another idea/option and for me to call in the morning (today) to find out more about the other option or medication. I am on hold with them now while they review my chart. They have a new method to try and it will be a daily dressing change at home and 1-2 times a week to see them for evaluations and dressing changes. I hope the change isn't to the way the nurse packed it on Sunday. I was in pain driving home and for quite some time once I got home. But, if it works faster I am willing to deal with the pain. It'll just suck. I don't know why but my legs were very sore and swollen after I left and my stomach was all inside out, too. I am scheduled for Tues and Fri and 6pm. Guess I'll find out tomorrow how rough this is gunna be. I just want the wound to heal so if I have to be in pain for a few weeks to make it heal, I'll deal with it.

Cable Review: Cox's On Demand Service

We were selected to test out the On Demand service that is rolling out to Cox Customers soon. Overall, I really like the idea of the On Demand service concept but the system needs a little work. I am giving it the benefit of doubt that it will have less kinks because we beta testers will have worked those out. Here's more about my opinion...Pros:
~ Watch almost anything with little to no fee
~ Has loads of kid worthy programing that our kids miss due to their unusual schedule
~ Has Noggin (It's like preschool on TV!) that I can use for homeschooling
~ Has TMNT (cartoons and movie) for Trysten
~ Has Sonic X which the boys always miss because it comes on before they awake
~ Has categories for easy selection
~ Has A-Z listing
~ Has search feature

Cons:
~ Tends to load slow during busy time of day (like around dinner time) - increase server speed during this time would help
~ When the show you select ends, you are put back to the top menu - would be nice to be put back where you selected the show or have an option to go back to selection area or top menu since there is a pop up which says you're show is over hit ok to be returned to menu.
~ Search feature is rough to use and slow at searching - need to implement better faster search terms
~ All programs have an end time - would be nice to have an option to save to the DVR
~ No favorites - would be nice to select certain shows/channels as your favorites so you wouldn't have to search so much to find the same thing all the time

So, overall I think the concept is great but needs a little work on the back end so it's more consumer friendly and a whole lot faster. I'm not sure how many beta testers they selected but if we are bogging it down, wait til they let everyone one it at once. Sounds like a system crash to me. Tim is sending in our opinions so hopefully when the rest of AZ is given access, some of the problems we've seen are solved.

Tim has used it to watch some movies. The boys have used it to watch their shows. I have been playing with the menu and options. Oh, another thing I forgot is that it is blocked just like any other program for TV ratings. We have ours set at PG13 so if anything is over PG13, we have to put in a code to watch it. You can adjust that setting or turn it off if you don't need it.

4th Annual Embler Wiggly Adventure

Yesterday, I packed stuff to entertain the boys on our annual trip to Phoenix to see the Wiggles in Concert. Trysten and Devlyn are so excited about going and talk about it constantly. Trysten was even telling his classmates about how he gets to go and they cannot go. My mom took Frankie to see the same concert but was here in town. She said Frankie loved it so much but she was a little disappointed by the setup so she's waiting to see if it's the concert setup or the venue that caused the bad setup.

We are taking up some doggie treats for Wags and roses for Dorothy. The boys will be up so close that they'll be able to give these treats easily this time. My mom picked up the doggie bones this morning at the dollar store.

We skipped my appointment to put on my vac system since I watched the video and decided there was no way I was taking that to Phx. I rescheduled it for tomorrow (Sunday) so I'll update on that once it happens. We left around 11am and headed up to Phx. We stopped at Walmart and bought the roses for the boys to give to Dorothy. We grabbed a bite to eat and then headed to the concert arena. We arrived fairly early (3pm) and the doors didn't open for an hour. Thankfully, the jobing.com arena is next to a outdoor mall so we took the boys over to that for a while. They watched the water display and Devlyn went potty. They both made wishes in the water fountain. About this time the doors to start lining up opened and we headed to the arena. Since we were second in line for our door, we headed right to the concessions. The boys each got a shirt and a Captain hat. Grandma had gotten them a Captain sword when she took Frankie and they brought those with us. We stopped at a food place and got drinks for everyone. Then it was down to the bottom of the arena.

We were center stage 15 rows back and the boys were so thrilled. They each got a special gift from The Wiggles (all front row seats got them) which was a book and stickers. They played with the stickers until the show started. Devlyn kept yelling at the stage to hurry and start. It was cute. Trysten danced and sang all the songs. Tim took lots of pics of the stage and the boys. Devlyn got really upset during the show for two reasons, a) his favorite Wiggle (Murray) did not collect roses and he normally does that job and b) he had an accident during the show but he was in a pullup so no major disaster. Dev was upset for quite some time and it wasn't until Captain Feathersword did his funny duck dance/song that he cheered up.

The show was very different from the other shows we've seen. It was in a large basketball size arena that was cut in half for the show. This made the sound quality not as good as the Dodge Theater it's been held in prior years. It seemed like more older songs were sung and less new songs but after thinking about it, it wasn't really true. The newer songs were nursery rhymes so they were shorter than the older songs. One family walked out of the arena during the Captain's duck song/dance. Before they sang the song, Anthony and Captain did a slapstick rountine where Anthony would do something and Captain would copy him. Anthony sang 'quack quack quack' and Captain sang ' cock a doodle do' to the dance steps. The family removed their child because it was 'sexual' but I'm not sure what they were seeing. I guess the falling down and casting out a fishing rod and pulling yourself up was 'sexual' because that's when they made the comment and left. I guess if you really put your mind into the gutter (and I mean really into the gutter), you could make it sexual but it's not meant to be since it's just like kids play fishing while sitting on their knees. The family never came back so it was their loss in seeing the rest of the show they paid good money for since they were in row 8 or so.

On the way home, we stopped at Famous Dave's and had an ok meal. It was closing time so service was slow and some of the food was almost day old quality. We headed home and the boys had some quality lego time. Yep, they've been playing with the tiny legos but only when they have been good and earned marbles. I'll explain more about the marble thing later.

Well that's about all for now. I am working at getting two hyper boys to bed and I am about due for my last dose of meds before I go to bed, too. I will post a link to photos once I upload them.

Tim was in the process of changing my incision dressing and notice it had some discharge that had a slight odor. We called the burn unit who'd been handling my wound care and they said it wasn't a real concern but they suggested I come in early tomorrow. We scheduled it for 9:30.We skipped going to the appointment in the morning because they discharge no longer had an odor and rescheduled for Sunday at 4pm. I'll update more about my incision then.

Back Brace

I talked to the doc yesterday and he said I can stop using the turtle brace. I see him today to see if I need to get any other type of brace but I don't think I'll need any other brace.I am still working on getting my extension at work. The case worker never calls me back and when I call her, shes never there. I'm gunna call the main line and talk to someone else to see what is going on with my case. I know she has all the paperwork and has until this weekend to finish up the extension but I would think she'd wanna just get it over with since she has the paperwork.

Well, I am off to see the doc. Will update if anything changes.
